Tension in the Unknowing / Trust in the Unfolding
Dear Wisdom,
I desire to know how the story will end. Help me.
Dear one, There are elements in life which are unknowable. These unknowables are part of the Great Mystery of all things. Although one cannot fully grasp the Great Mystery, it can be touched in moments, tastes, glimpses. Humility invites one to rest in the many small mysteries of life. Some mysteries you will understand throughout the course of your life, through a journey of waiting and discovering. Others will remain hidden until you are on the other side of the veil. You may know inner struggle as you desire to understand what is unknowable in this current moment. To live with this tension requires deep faith and trust, honed over time. This develops a muscle of the soul which can strengthen through life’s circumstances or be atrophied due to neglect. Living in tension with mystery is a pathway to joy as the ego comes to trust the soul’s path. (an excerpt from Love Breathes with Me III)
Living with tension isn’t easy, and yet it seems there is always a present tension of some sorts in our lives – unresolved areas of relationship, growth, longings. So much in life comes through a process of allowing a timing that is beyond our control and surrendering to an unfolding rather than a controlled and executed plan we are in charge of. There is mystery here – the mystery of our lives.
Our inner soul work, again and again, is to be present in the moment and learn to know grace in the midst of tension – the tension of unknowing. This is part of our journey of faith which isn’t comfortable. It isn’t comfortable at all, yet it is significant in creating an inner container of spaciousness, of trust, of knowing Presence in all things.
May we have courage to rest in the tension, to breathe in the unknowing, to trust in the unfolding of our lives, to know Love here, right here in all things.
