When the wars continue, when the fires burn, it is easy to lose hope.  When leaders fail, when cruelty seems to triumph, it is easy to be dismayed.  I’m often reminded of the story in Lord of the Rings where Frodo had a task to carry the ring.  He wasn’t on the front lines.  He wasn’t in the strategic meetings.  But he had one task and he did that with all his heart, which led to healing for the land and the people.  I am often asking, “What is the one task before me?  What is mine to do?”  As I have been pondering and writing, there has been an awareness that as we are faithful to our one thing, we contribute to the overall healing of the world.

I feel that an aspect of my task in the world is to create beauty and to remind people of the profound glory within them, the wonder of their souls.  It seems when we remember we carry something good, something beautiful, something pure, we are able to rise again into the noble qualities which the soul carries.

Taking time for stillness and silence this summer on Bowen Island, I had four encounters with young bucks.  They caught me by surprise each time they visited me. Twice I was writing a question in my journal, when they would suddenly appear, looking at me intently.  What message did they carry? What were they trying to convey?  I am still not fully sure, but these moments created a sense of wonder for me, a sense of a great Mystery we are in.  These moments of touching the intangible, of sensing beauty even in a world of chaos give me hope, give me strength, give me fortitude to carry on.

What is yet possible if we listen in the silence?  What is yet possible if we open to the beauty of the soul which we each carry.  There is a wellspring of Wisdom we are invited to know when we pause, breathe, and listen.  I invite you to join me on a path of listening, of opening to the Great Mystery of Love, of remembering the preciousness of your soul.

I wonder what you will hear?  I wonder what truth you will remember?
I wonder what guidance you will attune to?  I wonder what is yet possible when we align with the Great Love?

We may not understand but we can sense.
We may not see clearly, but we can taste … moments

when reality reveals a glimpse of the unknowable, the intangible.

To place language on Mystery is impossible
as the human mind is like an ant describing the Grand Canyon.

All we can do, truly, is kneel.
All we can do, truly, is behold, and be filled with wonder.

May we kneel this day.
May we behold this day.
May we be filled with wonder.
